Chevron reflective tape

Chevron reflective tape is a high-performance adhesive with a diagonal chevron pattern, usually made up of two contrasting colours to help improve visibility and safety.

We offer a variety of reflective chevron tapes for bulk supply across a range of industries, including traffic sign applications, construction, logistics, warehouses, and mining. Each product complies with Australian and international standards AS/NZS 1906.1:2017 to provide the highest level of safety.

In addition, our tapes have been tried and tested in Australian conditions, so we know they last and do the job required.

What is chevron reflective tape used for?

Chevron reflective tapes can be used for additional safety in industrial, road, and vehicle applications, where they act as essential safety products for identifying hazards.

This includes outlining barriers that shouldn’t be crossed and highlighting bollards and other objects on roads. They can also be used to mark temporary or permanent signage, such as road signs, increasing their visibility in low-light conditions.

Product range

We currently offer Stylus Class 1 Chevron Reflective Tape. This waterproof tape is best used as reflective signage on cars, buses, and trucks, and for temporary markings on roads, signs, and bollards.

It’s long-lasting (up to 10 years) and is UV stable and highly-reflective, with excellent corrosion and solvent resistance.

How do I choose the right reflective tape for my project?

If you’re after high-visibility road signage or a tape that works for long-term outdoor use, we’d recommend Class 1 tapes, as they offer exceptional durability while providing strong visibility through their prismatic design.

The VC-E4 is a better choice for heavy-duty vehicles, such as trucks and mining equipment, because of its ability to withstand more abrasion from the surrounding environment.

Technical features

All of our reflective chevron tapes share some common features.

  • Microprismatic technology for the best reflective properties
  • Resistance to UV, water, chemicals, and corrosion for improved durability
  • HIP-4100 uses a UV-stabilised acrylic film and pressure-sensitive adhesive
  • VC-E4 comes with edge sealing technology that makes it resistant to fuel, detergents, and solvents like Toluene and Diesel #2

What standards do these reflective tapes meet?

Our chevron reflective tapes are compliant with the following standards:

  • RoHS
  • OH&S
  • ASTM D 4956 Type 4
  • KS T 3507 Type 4
  • AS/NZS 1906.1:2017 Class 400
  • EN12899-1 Class RA2, GB/T 18833 Class 4
  • GOST 32945 Class 2
  • JIS Z 9117 Type 2-A-a & 2-A-b

Each one helps to guarantee a reliable performance while making sure the tapes comply with various safety and environmental regulations across Australia and abroad. AS/NZS 1906.1:2017 Class 400 is a great example of this, as it demonstrates that the tape offers a high grade of reflectivity that is suitable for road markings and road signs.

Application and storage guidelines

To make sure you’re applying your tape correctly, prepare the surface properly beforehand. Wipe it clean with a cloth and IPA solution if necessary, as this will help to rid the area of any dust or moisture for more effective application.

Try not to touch the adhesive as you apply it because this could impact its performance. As you press down, apply a sufficient amount of pressure and wait two to three days for it to reach maximum hold. We’d recommend applying at a temperature between 18–25°C, especially for the HIP-4100, as this will give you the best results.

When you’re not using your chevron reflective tape, store it somewhere cool and dry, keeping it in its original box to avoid any problems. The optimal temperature for storage is between 18–24°C with 46–60% humidity.

FAQs

Can chevron reflective tape be applied to curved or uneven surfaces?

The HIP-4100 is most effective when used on a flat surface. However, try performing a pre-test on a more complex substrate to see how well the tape holds. If you’re unsure, our team is available to answer any of your questions, so give us a call today.

Is chevron reflective tape weatherproof?

Yes. All of our chevron reflective tapes are waterproof and UV-resistant, making them suitable for use indoors and outdoors. Plus, they can withstand a number of different solvents, which is why they’re resistant to corrosion and provide better durability in harsher conditions.

How long does chevron reflective tape last?

Our plain coloured tapes last for up to 10 years, while our fluorescent options last for around three to seven years. Keep in mind that several factors can affect the lifespan of these tapes, including incorrect surface preparation and over-exposure to extreme temperatures.

Can chevron reflective tapes be cut to custom sizes?

Yes. Reflective chevron tapes can be cut with plotters or die cutters to suit specific applications. We’re also happy to discuss custom widths with you to find the best solution for your business or project. Contact our team and they’d be happy to help.
