Lane marking tape
Lane marking tape is a durable PVC tape that’s made with a synthetic rubber adhesive. It’s an effective solution for marking floors and provides a good alternative to painted lines, offering a faster way to outline specific areas, since you don’t have to worry about waiting for anything to dry or set.Â
This adhesive tape has a wealth of applications, most notably in warehouses, industrial spaces, hazard zones, and sporting courts. It can be used as a semi-permanent or temporary solution, depending on your needs, and is easy to replace. Â
Why lane marking tape is essential for workspaces
Use lane marking tape in your workplace to cordon off certain areas in your building, improve traffic flow, and minimise accidents in high-traffic areas. These tapes are an efficient and cost-effective way to help meet workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements.
Lane marking tape is frequently used in the following industries:Â
- Marking lines on sporting courts and/or arenas to create game-specific boundaries.
- Warehouses and factories where high visibility is essential to identify hazards and define designated walkways. Â
- Improving customer flow and safety in retail.Â
- Marking out clear pathways at concerts and other events to help with crowd control.Â
What colour lane marking tape should I use?
Here’s an overview of the colour options we stock.
| Tape colour | Typical use |
| Red | Marking dangerous and hazardous zones |
| Yellow | Highlighting caution areas in construction and identifying forklift traffic lanes |
| White | Identifying general aisles and walkways, as well as creating lines on sporting courts and arenas |
| Yellow/Black | Showing high-risk areas as part of WHS compliance |
When to use lane marking tape (and when not to)
The best place to use lane marking tape is on smooth indoor surfaces, as it will provide a much stronger bond. This makes it ideal for areas where a fast line marking solution is needed, such as a new construction job or in heavy-duty factories where safety is a priority.Â
Make sure you properly prepare the surface before applying your adhesive tape by cleaning it with a lint-free cloth and IPA solution. As long as the surface is clean and dry, you can expect strong adhesion that lasts.Â
One of the best things about lane marking tape is that it’s temporary. There’s no need to repaint the floor once you’ve finished using it (at the end of your lease, for example).
Lane marking tape is water-resistant but struggles on tougher surfaces. For this reason, avoid using it on rough surfaces or outdoors, as the adhesion may not last as long. If you’re unsure, test out the tape on a smaller section before applying it elsewhere.Â

Best practices for application
Apply to a clean and moisture-free surface to get the best performance out of your lane marking tape. You should also avoid touching the adhesive and apply a sufficient amount of pressure as you press it down.Â
Replace the tape periodically, especially if you notice wear and tear, or in high-traffic areas where you want to make sure hazards are securely flagged at all times.Â
As this tape uses a synthetic rubber adhesive, you’ll get a much better bond if you apply it at a temperature above 15°C.
