When to use lane marking tape (and when not to)

The best place to use lane marking tape is on smooth indoor surfaces, as it will provide a much stronger bond. This makes it ideal for areas where a fast line marking solution is needed, such as a new construction job or in heavy-duty factories where safety is a priority. 

Make sure you properly prepare the surface before applying your adhesive tape by cleaning it with a lint-free cloth and IPA solution. As long as the surface is clean and dry, you can expect strong adhesion that lasts. 

One of the best things about lane marking tape is that it’s temporary. There’s no need to repaint the floor once you’ve finished using it (at the end of your lease, for example).

Lane marking tape is water-resistant but struggles on tougher surfaces. For this reason, avoid using it on rough surfaces or outdoors, as the adhesion may not last as long. If you’re unsure, test out the tape on a smaller section before applying it elsewhere.

Best practices for application

Apply to a clean and moisture-free surface to get the best performance out of your lane marking tape. You should also avoid touching the adhesive and apply a sufficient amount of pressure as you press it down. 

Replace the tape periodically, especially if you notice wear and tear, or in high-traffic areas where you want to make sure hazards are securely flagged at all times. 

As this tape uses a synthetic rubber adhesive, you’ll get a much better bond if you apply it at a temperature above 15°C.
