Neoprene foam single-sided tape

Neoprene foam single-sided tape is a closed-cell foam adhesive tape that works well in both indoor and outdoor environments, thanks to its oil, chemical, and weather-resistant properties.

Our main product in this category is the Kwikseal 6100 Series Black Neoprene Foam Tape. It offers tight seals for a variety of applications, including gasketing, window glazing, construction, and fabrication.

With a solvent acrylic adhesive and closed-cell neoprene foam backing, it acts as an effective thermal barrier for insulation purposes and can be used in temperatures between -30°C and +130°C.

Key features and benefits

Here’s an overview of some of the tape’s key features and benefits.

  • A resistance to oils, grease, petrochemicals, and weathering provides increased durability and longevity.
  • Products above 3mm in thickness meet flame resistance standard FMVSS302, allowing for safer applications in more heavy-duty industries such as construction and electronics.
  • With a high tensile strength of 56 N/cm² and elongation of 180% to 220%, this foam tape offers superior flexibility.
  • Its closed-cell design makes it a suitable option for thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as for gaskets and sealing.
  • With custom widths available between 6mm and 1000mm and thicknesses between 1.6mm and 19mm, it has multiple uses.

Common applications

Here are the most common uses for neoprene foam single-sided tape:

  • Construction and fabrication projects
  • Glass and glazing industries
  • Rail networks and marine (boat building)
  • Die-cut gaskets and electrolysis barrier tape
  • Solar panel insulation and thermal/acoustic barriers

Why choose neoprene foam tape

Single-sided neoprene foam tape is a great choice if you’re looking for an adhesive that can withstand extreme temperatures and weather fluctuations for effective use outdoors. Its ozone and UV-resistance add to its durability, while its flame-retardant and self-extinguishing properties make it a safe option for hardier applications.

Unlike EDM and PVC tapes, this adhesive is best for long-term use, providing resistance to chemicals and other substrates such as hydrocarbons and oils. This is what makes this product so perfect for sealing in heavy-duty industries like construction and fabrication.

Best practices for storage and application

Proper storage of adhesive tape can significantly extend its shelf life and ensure it performs as expected when it’s time to use it. Our top tip for storing tape is to keep it at a temperature between 18°C and 22°C, with a relative humidity of 40% to 50%. This should help to extend the shelf-life of your adhesives. It should also be stored in its original packaging and used within six months of dispatch.

In terms of applying closed-cell foam tape, try to avoid touching the adhesive where possible, as this could impact adhesion. Make sure the surface you’re applying to is clean and free of moisture before sticking the tape down. Apply above 10°C on clean, adding firm pressure to the tape to get the best results.
