What is packaging tape?

Packaging tape is used for sealing cardboard boxes, or cartons before transport. When you think of sticky tape, transparent packaging tape is probably one of the first or only types of tape that comes to mind.

You might be surprised that there’s many types of packaging tape. What it’s being stuck to, the temperature at application, how long and where it’s being stored is all important when picking a packaging tape to use.

There are three main types of adhesives packaging tape can be made with: natural rubber, hotmelt and acrylic, which are summarised in the ‘Types of Packaging Tape’ section below. Most packaging tapes are made with a BOPP Polypropylene film however new, eco friendly alternatives are coming to the market made from biobased PLA, Paper or PET Polyester

What are envelopes?

Envelopes or ‘lopes’ are for storing documents securely on the outside of cartons. One side has an adhesive that is stuck to the cardboard and they have an opening to store the documents inside.
