What is HVAC tape?Â
HVAC tape is used for sealing and patching in heating, ventilation, and conditioning systems, helping to make them airtight and dust-free. With strong adhesion and durable material, it conforms well to multiple surfaces for effective adhesion.Â
If you’re in the HVAC business or need to do some DIY patching, Stylus Tapes’ HCAV range can help. Our wide selection of adhesive tapes are made for a range of applications, including HVAC systems. With our industry experience, we know how to help you select the right tape solution for every project.Â
What are the different types of HVAC tape?Â
We have four different types of HVAC tape available, including duct tape, aluminium foil tape, foam tape, and light duty protection film.Â
Duct tape
Duct tape is one of the most recognisable adhesive tapes. It’s used in multiple industries due to its versatility and reliability. Plus, it has water-resistant qualities, making it ideal for temporary sealing and repairs. We have five different types of duct tape to choose from.
Kwikseal 550 Economy Duct TapeÂ
This is a great tape for ductwork. It can handle temperatures between 18°C and 40°C and is suitable for temporary use outdoors. Simple to unwind with no risk of overstretching, this adhesive tape works well for a range of light-duty applications.Â
Stylus 550/13 General Purpose Duct TapeÂ
This tape offers strong adhesion favoured by contractors and builders. It works well for bundling and repairing, but also offers effective sealing for HVAC pumps. It’s RoHS-compliant and lead-free, safe to use, and available in three different sizes, with up to 64 rolls per carton.Â
Stylus 550/15 Premium Duct Tape
This tape is effective in temperatures between 0°C and 40°, making it another good choice for HVAC pumps. It’s highly conformable with superior strength for practical adhesion.Â
Nachi 150 Gold Label Heavy Duty Duct TapeÂ
This is another popular choice for builders and contractors due to its ability to handle heavy-duty joining. It also works for sealing flexible ductwork in HVAC systems, thanks to its tough, synthetic rubber adhesive.Â
Cyclone 757 PE Duct Tape – PVC FreeÂ
This PVC Free multi-purpose tape can withstand both hot and cold temperatures between -9°C and 93°C. Its hand-tearable, serrated edge makes it easy to use and flexible, which is why it’s ideal for HVAC systems. Read the product flyer and datasheet for more detailed specs.

Aluminium foil tape
Aluminium tape provides lasting and strong bonding for HVAC sealing and pipe insulation.Â
Stylus 902 Plain Aluminum Foil TapeÂ
This aluminium foil tape comes with strong acrylic adhesive and offers heat and light reflective capabilities. It’s both moisture- and UV-resistant, which is why it works so well at sealing and joining vapour barriers in HVAC ductwork.Â
Stylus 972 Reinforced Aluminium Foil TapeÂ
This HVAC foil tape is made from high-temperature resistant aluminium and mesh reinforcement. It’s highly conformable and complies with all relevant safety standards including AS/NZS 1530.3 1999.
Stylus 973 High Tack Reinforced Aluminium Foil TapeÂ
This is your best option if you’re looking for adhesive tape that works well under cold temperatures. Its temperature resistance sits between -20°C and 120°C, which is one of many reasons why it’s the perfect tape for HVAC systems.Â

Single Sided Foam tape
Foam tape is made from thick, closed cell foam and known for its ability to prevent the ingress of air, dust, water, or moisture.Â
Kwikseal 3800 Series PE Linerless Foam TapeÂ
This is a self-wound, single-sided tape that’s PVC free. It has wide-ranging temperature resistance, keeping its adhesion when faced with -20°C and 60°C. As a tape with low thermal conductivity, it offers great insulation when used with HVAC systems. Kwikseal 9100 Series Grey PE Foam TapeÂ
This is a popular choice for construction and fabrication, but it also offers efficient sealing for HVAC ductwork. It’s flame-resistant while also being capable of withstanding drastic temperature fluctuations. Thickness levels range from 3-12mm.Â
Protection film
This HVAC film comes in two sizes and can be used for a variety of applications. It conforms easily to steel, glass, PVC, and aluminium and can be cleanly removed when needed.Â
Stylus 2920 Translucent Blue Light Duty Protection FilmÂ
This tape is resistant to moisture and a number of different chemicals, which is why it's so effective in HVAC ductwork. It’s easy to unwind and curves around corners with ease. It can also be used outdoors for up to six months.Â

HVAC tape: what do I need to know?
There are a few things you need to know about HVAC tape. For starters, storage is important. Store your tape in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and light to prolong its lifespan. As standard, we’d recommend storing at a temperature between 18°C and 22°C, if possible.Â
The application process is also important. Some adhesive tapes can be placed against rough surfaces while others require a smoother area. Either way, make sure the surface is clean and clear of any dust or moisture. When applying the tape, try to avoid touching the adhesive side as this will reduce the tape's performance. Remember to put pressure on the tape as you press it down.Â
Why choose Stylus Tapes?Â

FAQs
Is HVAC tape waterproof?
Some HVAC tapes are waterproof; others are water-resistant. For example, duct tape is water-resistant, which means it’s more suitable for temporary use. However, foam tape is more likely to prevent the ingress of water, which is why it works better for longer use, especially outdoors.Â
