What are the different types of filament tape?

There are two types of filament tapes: one way filament tape and crossweave filament tape. 

One way filament tape (also known as single-woven filament tape or monodirectional tape) has fibreglass reinforcement in one direction. It’s a popular tape because, even though it tends to be cheaper than crossweave tape, it’s still a strong, heavy-duty tape. It can also be split lengthways. 

Crossweave filament tape (also known as two way tape) has fibreglass reinforcement in both directions throughout the tape. This high-tensile tape is has increased burst resistance and is rigid in all directions.

Each type offers strong adhesion for heavy-duty strapping with varying benefits. 

1. One way filament tape

2. Crossweave filament tape

The Stylus 802 Crossweave Heavy Duty Filament Tape is built to take on medium to heavily-weighted items. Its high tensile strength makes it great for reinforcing and concrete stencilling. It also comes in a range of options to match varying needs.

Filament tapes: what do I need to know? 

When selecting a filament tape that meets your requirements, there are a couple of things you should look out for. 

Storage recommendations 

It’s important to store your tape correctly. Try to keep your filament tape in its original packaging and out of direct sunlight. High temperatures can also have an impact on the adhesiveness of your tape, especially over long periods.

Tensile strength 

We list the tensile strength of each product in the individual product datasheet, which can be found with the product information on our website. 

Check the tensile strength prior to choosing your filament tape to make sure it can withstand the weight of your objects and packaging. Tensile strength is measured as N/mm, with our strongest currently available at 700.
